So here's the new Eminem video and it's fantastic. So far it's the best message I've seen aimed at young people this election about how to empower yourself with the vote. Kudos to Eminem for taking this on.

I would rate the song awful (Eminem is at his worst when he's being "political"), and the video OK. It just seems so much like another video that's in heavy rotation on MTV... I wish I could remember the name of the song.
ReplyDeleteFrankly, I found the ending disappointing. I thought the Eminem Army was going to go into the White House and kick Bush's ass. Instead, they line up to vote. Not a bad message, but I wanted to see Bush running for his life.

Considering the audience, the message was more empowering by a long shot. Images of violent revolution can be discouraging--but reminding the audience they can vote is empowering.
ReplyDeleteI think the image of a violent reaction would confirm everything that could be said about how rock music is dangerous for kids. But people registering to vote? It's harder to come up with a valid condemnation.
