Wombs don't have rights; too bad for that fleshy thing surrounding them

All sorts of bad news on the reproductive rights front. Minnesota has joined the fight to make the sluts pay and pay some more for getting out of line and thinking they have rights to their own bodies. The House is planning to move $2 million dollars from Planned Parenthood to places that will lie to women seeking abortions and humiliate them until they accept that bearing a baby and giving it away is their just punishment for touching a pee-pee. This quote from Feministing really gets to the root of the anti-abortion rights cause.

“They asked questions about Planned Parenthood's mission, how it counsels pregnant women who come to its clinics seeking abortions and how much state funding it gets...Rep. Tim Wilkin, R-Eagan, asked why more pregnant Planned Parenthood patients don't choose to have children and give them up for adoption.”

Rep. Wilkin thinks that women are just brood bitches and doesn't see why the fine people at Planned Parenthood don't agree. Every uterus that's working needs to be, if not for the family of the woman that owns the functioning uterus, then for the family with money that doesn't have possession of a functioning uterus.

Charlie Kilian sent me this story from The Kansas City Star about more abortion restrictions being put on women in Missouri.

The bill would require abortion doctors to obtain hospital privileges within 30 miles of their clinics to continue performing abortions. It also would redefine an abortion clinic as an "ambulatory surgical center" subject to state standards for surgery facilities.

The bill also would make it a felony for someone to accompany a minor across state lines to receive an abortion without a parent's permission.

Naturally, the bill, which is set up to make it harder for women who want abortions to get them, is being pushed as by a Republican who claims she's only trying to help women who want abortions.

Rep. Jane Cunningham, a St. Louis County Republican and sponsor of the legislation, said the bill would protect women by making abortion clinics safer.

Rep. Cunningham, you know what helps women who want abortions? Getting their fucking abortions. You're not being protected from what you really want to be protected from, which is being pregnant any longer, if the doctor who performs abortions gets shut down.

The bill also tries to make it harder for young women who can't get parental notification to cross state lines and get abortions there.

Cunningham filed the bill to crack down on Missouri minors who travel to the Hope Clinic in Granite City, Ill., to obtain abortions. Illinois does not require a minor to get parental consent for an abortion; Missouri requires one parent to approve.

"I think we have to keep young girls safe," Cunningham said. "These are Missouri children, and this is just closing a loophole."

Keeping girls safe means exposing girls who are afraid of a beatdown from daddy to having to tell him that they are pregnant. Those girls who won't risk it can safely go to a back alley abortionist or safely throw themselves down the stairs or safely have their boyfriends beat them until they miscarry. Cunningham can come over to my house and I'll show her what safe things I can do with a baseball bat to people who lie and claim to be helping the very people they are dying to hurt.

As Rad Geek explains:

This is no accident. They are coming for the young and desparate first; they are the easiest to go after. They have already created a byzantine system of explicit restrictions and burdensome regulations to create a limited class of authorized abortion providers and make the conditions of obtaining an authorized abortion from them as harrowing as possible.

Well, Jesus did say that the strong should devour the weak, that strength is the same thing as morality, didn't he?

Edited to add: Fred at Stone Court thinks that the murder of a judge today might be an anti-abortion terrorist act. I wouldn't be surprised--the laudatory attitude on the right wing fringe towards the killing of Judge Lefkow's husband and mother last week is just the sort of thing that inspires further terrorist acts. And while the causes--white supremacy and anti-abortion rights--are ostensibly different ones, they aren't really. For one thing, they are both about returning control to the dominant groups. For another, the attitude that women are just breeding machines locks in nicely with the obsession that white supremacists have with lineage, etc. Hell, the notion that women's rights are a direct threat to the survival of the white race is becoming a mainstream idea lately, with David Brooks hinting around the subject in his odes to natalism.

Update on that: It looks like it wasn't a terrorist killing, but a man on trial for rape who was trying to get away.

while i definitely agree that the proposed "positive alternatives" legislation in minnesota would be extremely detrimental to women's rights, i think your position might be more effective if you were to put more analysis and information into it than your phrase including "punishment for touching a pee-pee." i'm not disagreeing with your position but with your phrasing and villification of such people as Rep. Wilkin (btw, i know nothing about him, but i'm fairly certain he would disagree with the statement that he thinks women are "brood bitches"); imho, this gives people who disagree with women's rights a much easier way to discredit our view by pointing out the obvious exaggerations that you have posted. just my two cents, clearly it's your blog and your deal. that said, i also think it might be nice to note that there are currently two bills concerning sexuality and abortion under debate in the minnesota legislature: the positive alternatives act and the prevention first act. the latter would expand sexuality education in schools and expand access to preventative health care services to help prevent unwanted pregnancy and STIs. although sexuality rights are obviously under attack currently, it's nice to know that there are legislators fighting for those rights, and it thus doesn't make sense to suddenly decide that a whole state has "joined the fight to make the sluts pay and pay some more" - even if the bills have different probabilities of passing, the fact that both exist indicates that the fight for sexuality rights is alive and well in minnesota.

  2. I know what you mean, and I want to make my language equal to the seriousness of the situation, but here's the problem....Our opponents, the ones stripping our rights, are out to punish women for having sex. Period. It's a ludicrous goal and I use mocking language to expose them. They really don't mean for the laws to do anything other than punish pee-pee touchers. The sooner our side accepts that, the sooner we counter effectively. They want to punish girls for fucking. End of story. We need to engage their viewpoint in order to deal with it.

    ReplyDelete
  3. As someone who's currently suffering the inanity of a troll who keeps count of how often I use "the f-word," I happen to think the language you used to make your point was just fine, and, in fact, appropriate. Some things really do need to be treated with the contempt they deserve.

Tangentially (and shamelessly blogwhoringly), you might be interested in this recent post about the problem of trying to make a place for pro-life national candidates.

thanks amanda for your response to my comment. i do agree that our opponents want to punish young women (and really any unmarried women) for having sex - perhaps i just go for a different style of exposing this than you do. given that, however, i don't think it's fair to represent my position as "suggest[ing] that if we behaved ourselves, if we were sweet and ladylike and docile, if we asked for things nicely like good girls rather than demanding things like strong women" then rights would be granted. there's a fundamental difference between asking for analysis and the avoidance of personal attacks and asking for someone to be "sweet and ladylike"; i'm fairly certain i've written some very non-ladylike papers illustrating the systematic way women's rights and sexuality rights are being challenged that were rather heavy on the analysis and light on the personal attacks. i guess what i'm saying is that while the first part of your post works fine for those of us already on your side, it probably won't convince anyone to join us. since those are two different agendas, maybe i mistakenly believed you had the latter rather than the former; i'm sorry about that. finally, one last comment that may once again spark criticism, i don't think using non-analytical language ("strong" in sally's words) is necessarily the "right" (read that as useful/appropriate/proper (not in a ladylike sense)/etc.) thing to do just because the right (conservative) has used it to their advantage; there are many tactics of the right that seem to work well for them that i wouldn't engage in at any cost.

  5. I'm not at all trying to convince any right wingers--they are already enamored of the punishment model and it's useless to get through to them. However, I am trying to shock people into recognizing the true goals of the right wing, especially people who are pro-choice but tend to be nice and take the anti-choice people at their word that this is about babies. It's not and one of the purposes of my blog is to remind people--harshly--that the wingnuts mean to punish and hurt. I think that reminding is useful, yeah.

Wilkin may not think we're brood bitches, but he's acting like he thinks that and he's promoting that worldview. I'm assuming his motivations match his actions for clarity's sake.

In the State of Texas, a girl can come in to have an abortion, and the abortion clinics are not required to have parental consent. Most of the abortion clinics in Texas do require it for 14 and under. However, let's paint this picture: The girl comes in, has an abortion, she can sign for it. But when the doctor rips her uterus out and they take her to the hospital, they won't admit her until her parents get there and are told she had this abortion without their consent. And they will not repair the damage or try to save her life until the parents sign on the dotted line. And that happens. It's terrible.

If abortion is such a good thing, why don't they give them away? If abortion is such a good thing, why don't they go ahead and do the abortion then, and trust you to pay the extra $200 when they're finished? That's not the way it is. I've never been able to come up with the words to describe the abortion procedure, because, you see, you're educating people about abortion. You know more about it than the average person. However, no matter how bad you think abortion is, there are no words to describe how bad it really is. It kills the baby. And, yes, I've seen sonograms with the baby pulling away from the instruments that are introduced into the vagina. And the woman, the mother, is hurt if she doesn't have the extra money to be put to sleep, and I've seen D&Es through 32 weeks done without the mother being put to sleep. And, yes, they hurt, and they are very painful to the baby. But, yes, they are very, very painful to the woman. I've seen six people hold a woman on the table while they did her abortion.

The 21-year-old that danced in, and I'll never forget her for as long as I live. She was my son's age. Danced in to get her "problem" taken care of. Had the extra money to be put to sleep. And you see, my job with two of those doctors was to put my right hand on the baby and hold it while they did the abortion so I could tell them where the head was and where the legs were, and all of that. And I had my hand on that woman's stomach, and that baby was perfectly inside her uterus; she had been examined by the doctor; and he said, yes, the baby was inside her uterus and everything was fine and she was 24-weeks. And he went in one time, and he pulled out placenta, and he went in the second time and he went through the back of her uterus and pulled her bowel out through her vagina. We put her in the car because we didn't want an ambulance in front of the abortion clinic and we took her to the hospital. Seven doctors worked on her and they did a colostomy on her. When the reports came back, they said that it was an abdominal pregnancy that had not been in the uterus, and seven doctors and a pathologist concurred with that, and then the hospital wrote off her bill, and there was no lawsuit, ever. She was told that had been a normal complication; it was just amazing that she'd made it that long. And she didn't know any better. And then the girl that the doctors decided had a fibroid tumor at the back of her uterus. That's a highly common tumor that's very rarely malignant. And the two doctors decided they were just going to pull this out after she had her abortion, and they didn't know they were pulling on the back of her uterus, and they pulled the uterus out wrong-side-out of a 21- year-old; she had a hysterectomy.

Saw your blog about new car loan - as it is along the same lines I thought I would share this link with you. We were paying far too much for family things like clothes for us and the kids, games consoles inc the new Wii and soon to be PS3, car insurance/home insurance/pet insurance, broadband, mobile phones, landline calls, home and garden items, camping equipment and utilities/loans etc - you name it, we were spending too much on it.

Then a friend of mine recommended a site called www.bargainplace.co.uk. We were able to get cheaper electricity, gas, mobile phone, broadband and loan deals at bargainplace. Thanks to my friend (and the site) I am saving something like £100 a month and can afford an extra holiday abroard each year. Booked of course on www.bargainplace.co.uk. Thanks bargainplace ;-) !!

I'm sure it was this blog I was reading a while back where someone was looking for an SEO tool for driving more traffic and get more hits for their website.

Anyway, I was speaking to a techi guy at work who gets to know all the latest stuff and he uses the free Link Referral Program.

His website on web site promotion add url amongst other stuff has seen traffic explode since he started using the Link Referral Program - consequently his affiliate sales commissions and business sales went through the roof PLUS his website increased in google ranking which was an added bonus!!

If anyone else has any good ideas for driving more traffic to blogs/websites then please share with your online business blog buddies. Ta ;-)

A pal of mine had a website featuring insurance marketing and he was desparate for more website traffic. He scoured the internet and tried all the pay-for software programs including Trafficseeker, Addweb, IBP and many, many, more. All they succeeded in doing was crippling his site's page ranking and cosequently he plunged down the google search engine ranking. He then discovered a new way of getting genuine visiting traffic back to his webitse.

The system has been such a success that he has upgraded his account and now refers others up to the program.

If you are looking for free website promotion, free traffic, free marketing, free advertising then look no further Linkreferral is here!!
