A death that doesn't move me

Jim Morrison is a dork. I don't like the Doors. His death seems like a tedious overdose and nothing more.
But still, there are those who claim to be inspired by him. Iggy Pop claims Jim Morrison as an ideal. My friend, Dickie Moist, who resembles Iggy Pop in a disturbing way claims only to be inspired by Jim Morrison.
I don't buy it. The Doors were tedious, and their pop-writing skills were mediocre, worse if compared to the fantastic music that was really playing at the time.

YES! YES! YES!!!!

Finally, someone else that recognizes Jom Morrison as the hack he was. The only reason he's still famous is because he had the grace to die early.

I agree that that Doors were tediously self-indulgent at their worst, but at their best they were a superb ensemble, with a unique and original sound. They managed to produce a hard, forceful sound using soft rock techniques. Robbie Krieger's delicate guitar work is particularly notable. Morrison was a pretentious lyicist, a spotty singer and a drunken boor, but he was also a badass frontman - almost worth the trouble he caused his bandmates.

Thank you for saying that. It needs to be repeated over and over again until people get it through their damned heads. JM was a pretentious, indulgent dick.

From the same era, the Left Banke, Love, the Zombies, and most especially Scott Walker (!!!) were all infinitely better. What do you recommend?

The Left Banke? Please. "Pretty Ballerina" was distinctive and interesting but they never produced anything on the level of "Love Me Two Times". There were better late '60s bands than the Doors, but the Left Banke was not one of them. They are underrated in that they are widely considered third-rate, when they are actually second-rate. I'd place them somewhere below Iron Butterfly.

Jim Morrison is The American Poet. All you people bashing him have no clue about good poetry or good music. The Doors are one of the best, original bands of the 60's. Even if he didnt die early I ensure you he would still be famous. I can't name one bad song by The Doors (all of which were written by Jim Morrison, accept Light My Fire). I bet you're probably just some low life loser who has been brain-washed by Nsync and The Backstreet Boys. You're just mad because you have no life and he probably had everything you could of ever dreamed for(money, girls, fun, friends,to never be forgotten). How many other people have a anual riot at their gravestones? He made fucking great music.
