Operation Rescue is back in the saddle

If you haven't seen this story about how Operation Rescue is staking out the homes of people who work in abortion clinics because they are barred from picketing abortion clinics, read it now.

My suggestion to any people who are subject to this kind of harassment and the police can't or won't help you is to invest in an electric fence. And a big old pepper spray canister. If anyone thought they were being cute by sitting out in front of my house trying to attract crazy people over to murder me, they would be getting daily doses of pepper spray to the eyeballs until they cut it out. And possibly whacked with a daily dose of BB to the ass.

They think that they are cute and that "rebuking" will be effective because they actually believe that people who work in abortion clinics suffer some great guilt over what they do. Or at least that's the argument that's winning over supporters. But make no mistake, this is all about using weak "moral" arguments to get a rush out of getting to stalk and harass people.

Troy Newman, the head of Operation Rescue, calls it the Year of Rebuke -- and if it works in Wichita, he plans to unleash the campaign of intimidation on abortion clinics all across the country. "I want these employees to realize that their lives have changed," he says. "As long as they're embedded in the abortion industry receiving blood money, they can't live a normal life. They just can't."

Interesting how he doesn't take personal responsiblity for their inability to live normal lives, something which is directly caused by his action. This is blaming the victim at its worst.

If there's any doubt that Newman is out to make sure that women who don't fall in line with his beliefs are hurt, this will convince you.

Newman and his staff have spent months compiling a list of more than 200 "abortion collaborators" -- companies that do business with Women's Health Care Services and its employees. They plan to approach every firm on the list -- from the guy who mows the clinic's lawn to the cafe that sells Tiller his morning latte -- and lobby them to stop doing business with the facility. At the top of the collaborator list is Wesley Medical Center. Wesley is vital to Tiller's clinic: It's where his patients are taken if there is a medical emergency. Newman has written to Wesley's board of physicians to request that they retract hospital privileges for Tiller's patients.

In case that's not clear enough, let me spell it out. Operation Rescue's main goal right now is making sure that a woman who is having complications from an abortion is refused medical care. And sadly, I'm sure that if they managed to block a woman from getting emergency treatment after an abortion and she died, they would parade this around as "evidence" that abortions kill women.

I suspect they limit this to states without stalking laws.

Which brings up the possibility of subjecting them to the same tactics.

The best tactic would be the arm all the harassed with pepper spray. First time you spot one of them coming, pepper spray. Rinse and repeat until they get the message.
I'm sure Kansas also has restraining orders.

Heh, mythago, Michael Moore did that on TV Nation once. That particular guy was not happy that a bunch of people were outside his house.

Also, we're discussing that article here: http://www.livejournal.com/community/feminist/1212233.html

that article is so scary. i was particularly troubled by the part where they're encouraging the other clinic to refuse medical care too. very worrisome and dangerous. i'm glad the protesters i have to deal with at the clinic in san francisco aren't quite as horrible as the operation rescue people.

it seems obvious to me that they're a terrorist organization, why isn't something being done to keep us safe from THEM?!
