One more time, for the idiots in the back

THEY DON'T GET STEM CELLS FROM ABORTED FETUSES.

I know Freepers can't get a damn thing through their skulls, especially if it's information that will put lie to the Bush-worshipping and woman-hating that they love to engage in, but I still can't get over my frustration. Digby has a collection of the ugly, nasty comments about Christopher Reeve from Free Republic, and they are worse than can be expected. They seem to be under the impression that Reeve got hurt just so that he could more effectively call for baby-murder.

Freepers are scum and nothing better can be expected. But the misinformation about how stem cells are harvested is really beginning to grate on my nerves. They could ban abortion tomorrow, ban the pill, and pass laws saying that women have to fuck Freepers whether they like it or not and that wouldn't change the fact that we have a steady supply of stem cells that are just being thrown out unused.

STEM CELLS ARE HARVESTED FROM FERTILITY CLINICS. THEY WILL BE THROWN OUT IF THEY AREN'T USED.

Women who submit themselves to the invasive procedure of in vitro fertilization are not skanky ho-bags who kill babies to show their contempt for men, Freeper fucks. They are trying to be what you and your ilk think of as good women--they will move heaven and earth to birth a baby of their very own.

I am sick and tired of "pro-lifers" who want to condemn people like Reeve to death to score a cheap political point on an issue that has only a marginal relationship with abortion in the first place.

"Fetus" has two definitions: the medical one, which is something like "the later stages of development in the womb or egg" and the pro-life one, which is something like "a human zygote, blastocyst, later-stage embryo, or fetus". They also define abortion not as termination of a pregnancy, but as failing to do everything in your power to protect a "fetus", which includes discarding four-cell clusters.

If you completely ignore the field of medicine, it's easy to assert that they get stem cells from aborted fetuses.

In case it's not obvious, I am sick and tired of the lies that form the basis of the "pro-life" argument. Click through to that Feministe link--she has other links to people who thrash the shit out of the bullshit belief that a fertilized egg and a five-year-old are the same damn thing.

It's about women and sex--it's simply preposterous to believe that the willful ignorance and misogyny of the "pro-life" organizations is just a coincidence.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. It is obvious that you (quite rightly) think they're full of shit. I was trying to explain what I saw as the mechanism by which they can feel that they're not lying: they redefine terms in ways that have nothing to do with the field of medicine, and then try to legislate medicine based on those terms. They're doing the equivalent of "If you assume 'two' means 3 and 'plus' means 'perform multiplication', then two plus two is nine," except they're not stating their assumptions and they're trying to regulate addition based on it.

Oh, I understand you, I'm sorry. Just pouring out more anger.

If an unemployed single teenager is pregnant then the best thing she could do is abort as early as possible and give the embryo towards helping the disabled walk again. Instead of actually having a baby she cannot possibly look after properly. There are too many unwanted ill cared for children already there doesn't need to be any more.

Although the first cuckoo clocks were made of wood, they are a great deal simpler in style than the intricately decorated and heavily carved creations that are usually thought of to be cuckoo clocks. Find out more about neon wall clock
