On the bright side

All this enthusiasm in the Christian right of late is depressing to be sure. They definitely think they have been given permission to run willy-nilly demanding that women have their reproductive rights taken away and soon we can expect the volume on demands that women rethink this whole "career" thing to go up. And, as News Writer points out, we can imagine that they will start making noise about how young women owe the world some birthin', which is obviously what Wingnut Christensen meant by singling out the deliberately childless as somehow hurting marriage. (I wrecked four marriages last week alone.) And knowing the wingnut enthusiasm for enforcing their beliefs by law, we can only imagine how they think they will attack childlessness.

Dim thoughts indeed. But I for one am looking on the bright side. When the Wingnut Revolution is all said and done, I think I may qualify for a handmaid. I've always wanted one. I mean, not the child-bearing part or the watching my man have sex with another woman part. But I sure would like someone to go to the store for me everyday.

Yes, it seems like a small comfort, but the grocery store is a nightmare. Lines everywhere, screaming children, and people who park their carts in the middle of the aisle as if it never occured to them that someone might just want to get by them. All this and the fact that occasionally they rearrange everything just to make it harder to find stuff. Right now it's raining and I'm headachy, but I have to go to the store anyway for cat food or have to listen to plaintative meowing about how dry food just isn't good enough. I can see the advantage in this situation of having my brightly clad handmaid go to the store in my stead.

If she washed windows and floors, too, I may even be able to overlook the sex with my man part.

Your fine sense of pragmatism has convinced me to denounce bachelorhood and propose for your hand in marriage =p

So...with all this emphasis on childbearing, does this mean the wingnuts will be forcing older couples to get divorced?

Should I start making my "Free the Handmaids" signs now?

Seriously--I laughed my ass off. The rest of this newsletter, they moan and groan about women getting all uppity and capitulating to feminism, but that guy was capitulating without realizing it, since he was very careful to avoid stating the real point of having lots and lots of children--it stifles the wife's ability to do anything with her life other than mother and serve.

Shop at your favorite stores 24 hours a day. Why go to the mall when you can shop online and avoid the traffic
