Oh, that's alright then

Via The Well-Timed Period, we find that the bill that Del. Cosgrove is wanting to introduce won't make it illegal to miscarry. No, you'll only be considered a murderous if you deliver a stillborn. Phew.

Of course, as Ema demonstrates, there's no reason to think that Cosgrove has any fucking clue what a stillborn is, and I'm sure that he really doesn't know the difference between a miscarriage and a stillborn. But the main problem is that a law like this is all about assuming that women who give birth to stillborns are considered guilty until proven innocent. His reasoning that he gives in the letter Ema puts up is that it's hard to tell after 12 hours if a stillborn was in fact delivered dead or if the mother killed it after it was born. Which means that we have to assume that there are hoardes of women out there killing their babies and passing them off as stillborns. Why not assume this? After all, we are the daughters of Eve and will wander off into the wilderness of sin and evil if there are not firm male hands guiding us and reminding us that killing babies isn't just a fun game.

Amanda, remember how Dan Savage instigated coming up with a definition for "santorum", based on the odious Rick Santorum? Well, I hearby nominate this definition for "Cosgrove":

that brownish, icky goo towards the end of a menstrual period; the stuff that is more sloughed-off tissue than blood, although it contains clotted blood at times too.

Unless of course, you can come up with something more gross and equally apropos. Bloggers can then set this up on wikipedia and urban dictionary, and link to it, frequently.

What a fucking asshat.

I seriously doubt some of these old male legislators know *anything* about female biology, let alone female reproduction. It wouldn't surprise me if one of these old patriarchists still believe that there are minature babies inside of sperm-cells.

Man, some Southern Conservative white-male politicians are just so out there,...and very dangerous to women's reproductive rights sometimes.

I love your idea, Lubu. I think that we could work that into WAY more conversations than "santorum", since women have periods once a month, but santorum is a rare enough happening, even for people who have a lot of anal sex.

"Hey, Cindy, are you feeling better?"

"Oh yeah, I'm way past my heavy days and into the Cosgrove phase."

"Cool! Let's go swimming!"

You could use it in tampon commercials.

Hmm, I find it hard to believe that a legislator does not become familiar with a topic before proposing legislation. There's something else going on here; haven't figured out what yet, but I'm working on it.

I'd consider blaming it on simple stupidity, but this is a surprisingly short, clearly written piece of legislation.

My guess is that the real point of this bill is to push further ahead with the idea that a fetus is a legal person, and that, with enough such laws passed, the anti-abortion folks can claim that by "evolving community standards," abortion should now be illegal.

In any case, I think Cosgrove is lying about the intent of the proposed law.

No, no. The santorum campaign didn't start with Wikipedia. You have to use it in webversation first. Heck, send it to Savage Love. Couldn't hurt.

Saw your blog about va loan - as it is along the same lines I thought I would share this link with you. We were paying far too much for family things like clothes for us and the kids, games consoles inc the new Wii and soon to be PS3, car insurance/home insurance/pet insurance, broadband, mobile phones, landline calls, home and garden items, camping equipment and utilities/loans etc - you name it, we were spending too much on it.

Then a friend of mine recommended a site called www.bargainplace.co.uk. We were able to get cheaper electricity, gas, mobile phone, broadband and loan deals at bargainplace. Thanks to my friend (and the site) I am saving something like £100 a month and can afford an extra holiday abroard each year. Booked of course on www.bargainplace.co.uk. Thanks bargainplace ;-) !!

Consequently this saw my affiliate commissions shoot through the roof - meaning lots of extra money coming in for my family - I bought my first Mercedes car on the proceeds of my online campaign.
