It's time for a four day work week

Some schools in Colorado have reduced their schedule to four days. While I think it's a shame that schools are having to cut back, I actually think a four day week is a great idea.
I've held the opinion for a long, long time that the work week needs to be scaled to 32 hours for a full-time worker. Or even 35, with slightly longer days. It would reduce unemployment, increase the number of people who have health insurance, and give people more time with their families. Most people don't do 40 hours of work a week, anyway. They pick their nose, plan their lunch, balance their checkbook, and uh, blog. Let's quit pretending otherwise.
But there is one more reason, and it's downright patriotic. We need to scale back the work week to edge us towards oil independence. Like it or not, most Americans drive to work in gas-guzzling cars 5 days a week, and many of those people have long commutes from the suburbs. Knock a day off a week, and you would probably reduce gas consumption by nearly 20% right away. I mean, people do drive on their days off, but usually not nearly as much as they do when they work. Most of the stores and entertainment they drive to on the weekends is closer to home than their jobs are.
Of course, the oil companies and the anti-union types that BushCo is in bed with will prevent this plan from even getting on the table. But it's something to agitate for anyway. Being lazy is good for the enviroment!
