The economics of protest

Mayor Bloomberg needs to quit making it hard for protestors to protest the Republican Convention and get behind their efforts, argues Ben Cohen. After all, a million warm bodies with credit cards converging on the city means that much more cash pumped into the local economy.
I agree. And while the protestors may not spend as much per person on expensive liquors, food, cigars, and prostitutes as the Republican conventioneers, they will be boosting the cheaply to moderately priced food industry. And believe me, lots and lots of those taxed to death cigarettes will sell. And of course, good old beer will make a killing.
For the first time ever, you will actually see trickle-down actually work. The Republican convention will inject cash into the higher priced market, and the protesters they attract will trickly down into the affordable markets.
