Listening to women

Steve Gilliard has a nice post about learning to appreciate women.  And not in the crappy, Limbaugh, I-appreciate-the-shape-of-their-bodies way, but in the way where a man realizes that women have brains(!)  and it might bode well to listen to them.  I have my disagreements with the idea that men and women have vastly different things to offer their friends.  In my experience, while there are a few differences you can chalk up to sex, most of what we offer our friends is very individualistic.  For instance, I tend to do alot of stereotypical "guy" things with my friends, male and female. 
But the main thing it's always good to hear one man tell others to actually listen to women.  Not that many men do.  Hell, I've had plenty of situations where I'm trying to tell a man something and not only is he not listening, he doesn't even seem to hear me.  Or see me.  This is a dangerous tendency, as if a man is the sort who usually ignores women altogether when he's not having sex with one is likely to be crossing the street one day and not hear a woman yell, "Look out for that car!" I'm just saying. 
It does get tiresome having to physically grab men by the chin or the nose in order to even make sure they see/hear you when you have something important to say.  Yes, I'll do it if it's important enough.  But it very rarely is.  If a man dismisses what women has to say by virtue of their sex, then he's making his own bed and he's going to have to lay in it one day.  It's just common sense to avoid dismissing half the population as friends and confidantes because of your own piddly-brained prejudice.
