Without apology
Wow, for once Salon has an article about feminism that isn't condescending. It's about the movement to get women out of the closet, if you will about abortion.
Not much to add to that--it's obviously great that artists and activists are trying to put the faces of women who've had abortions in front of you. The pro-life movement has been very effective at rhetorically taking human women out of the debate--women are just the inconvienent flesh between the wicked abortion doctor and the helpless baby pictured floating out in space, much like the Star Child in 2001. It's sad that we need to be reminded that a pregnant woman is still a human with a face, a history, a future, dreams, goals, wishes, beliefs, and desires, but that doesn't make it any less necessary.

"out of the closet" is exactly the right term to use.
