For those who don't know yet

There's a new project in town called Feminist Blogs, a clearinghouse for, well, feminist blogs. From the site:

Feminist Blogs is a community of weblogs by self-identified feminists, womanists, women's liberationists, and pro-feminist men. We syndicate our weblogs to raise awareness, bring together feminist voices, and promote cross-linking and discussion between feminist bloggers. Blogs are not just for boys, and we are building independent alternatives to the malestream media.

The creator, who also runs Rad Geek People's Daily, is taking submissions. Mouse Words is on there now. Feminist Blogs and Rad Geek are added to my blogroll. So is Body and Soul, but mostly because I keep meaning to add Jeanne and keep forgetting.

That description makes the smart-aleck in me want to inquire into the difference between "feminist," "womanist," "women's liberationist" and "pro-feminist."

Other than that, though, cool idea.

Well you know us liberals. We can't keep anything simple. I'm already mulling over a new term--the Buffyist--a feminist who prefers kicking ass and smart ass comments to thoughtful discussions.

Well, I just prefer the term "feminist" myself, but the idea is to pitch as big a tent as is reasonable, so I didn't want to alienate people who, for whatever reason, identify strongly with branches of the women's liberation movement but don't like calling themselves "feminists" specifically. I think this sort of stuff is less likely to come up now than it was in the 1970s, but you never know.

(And if you think that string of modifiers is long, just check out what they had to do to cover most of their bases over at Anarchoblogs...!)
