The Mouse beats on some strawmen for her own amusement

David Neiwert found this story about Kerry protesters getting arrested while equally aggressive Bush protesters were left alone in Jacksonville, FL that has this amazing quote:

[Bush supporter Avis] Maddox said, "It is just not moral the things they are saying. They need to listen to both sides.

"Sixteen year old Zack Burgdorf, dressed in military fatigues, shouted, "If you're gay -- go back to Ashland. America's not made for queers."

"Especially not Jacksonville," chimed Maddox.

That's the sort of unfair quote that makes it seem like Bush supporters don't actually think that reasonable people disagree or that there are two legitimate sides you can take on an issue. I disagree. There are plenty of issues that have two legitimate sides. A short list of things that reasonable people can debate about:

*Is George W. Bush the Second Coming or is he simply the greatest President ever?

*Are homosexuals evil or just mentally deranged?

*Are liberals just stupid or are they all secretly working for Al Qaeda?

*Is it enough that we've given Iraq peace and democracy, or should we try to convert them to Christianity?

*Are women who get abortions mother wannabes who are deranged with feminism who need help or are they just sluts who are getting what they deserve?

*Are both nominees Vietnam war heroes or only President Bush?

*When John Kerry called Mary Cheney a lesbian, was he just being rude or was he lying?

As everyone can see, there's plenty of room for dissent in George Bush's America.
