I know I already did a post about Kathleen Hanna, but I know have the new Le Tigre album in my hands and it rules, y'all. So pick it up. It's called This Island and I even like the cover, which is just amusing.
Le Tigre is pretty dedicated to the DIY style, so I was mildly surprised to hear how polished this album sounds next to their others. But it works great; I'm glad that they are finding a more mainstream voice. Le Tigre is a dance band and a pop band, and the only real sin is not being fun. There's no standard of purity to reach towards. Enthusiasm in the House of Mouse/House of the 80's Never Died is high, since this album veers from New Order to Devo in sound.
The other two members of Le Tigre are Johanna Fateman and J.D. Samson, the former an old zine queen and the latter an artist who moved from illustrating for the band to being in it. And seriously, it's straight up 80's-style dance music, perfect for those who miss the days when dance pop still had some rock sound to it. And even for those who think that and are ashamed. Listen to it in your car when you don't have a passenger.
