So that's why pollsters never call me
Roxanne points out that pollsters don't call cell phones. Why is this relevant? Well, large numbers of younger people don't have land lines anymore. And that means that young people are getting under-represented by phone polling.
Thinking about it, it makes alot of sense. I don't have a land line, and neither do a bunch of people I know. Too expensive and you get telemarketers all the time. Why bother?

I used to do political polling in Oklahoma, and no one got underrepresented. It wasn't just that fewer people were using cell phones exclusively back then. We just would keep calling until we got the numbers that we needed from each demographic. There are enough people still using land lines that no one needs to worry about being underrepresented in telephone polling. Coincidentally, I was doing this around the time of the Lewinsky scandal, and it was such a great time to be doing that because everyone wanted to give you a piece of their mind, whether they were for or against the President. I loved it, and then I hated it because we started doing a lot of push polling, which is one of the most nefarious things polling outfits can do.

You really should read her numbers. In Michigan, they found that a quarter of young people had no land line. Of course, that was Ann Arbor, which is a huge college town, and one of the reasons that college student types might choose a cell phone over a land line is because they are so mobile. By phoning for demographics, you probably used things like age, education, sex and race, right? You can't control for things like mobility.
I think there's good reason to think that single people and students are undercounted. Last election, this was no big deal, since they voted less, too. But this time out, I think that you will see alot more of these people voting.
