The sum total of medical settlements, in or out of court, is something like $5 billion, about 0.3% of our health care costs total. This whole tort-reform campaign is bullshit. I wish Kerry and Edwards would say something about this, people can realize that, though U.S. healthcare has many problems, medical malpractice suits are not one of the bigger causes of them.
