The covert lesbian takeover of America
This article about Tom Coburn's belief that hall passes were invented recently to stop teenage girls from adopting the recently invented behavior of lesbianism is funny and interesting. There are real dangers that come from electing people this mean and ignorant to office, which the article goes into. The best part is when the writer calls Coburn's office and they stand by their lies:
When contacted by the Associated Press for follow-up, Coburn's spokesperson, John Hart, had an answer. Lesbian debauchery has been allowed to happen, he said, because “our kids are getting mixed messages about sexuality.”
I agree that we should stop sending kids mixed messages. The first confusing message to go, in my opinion, should be that sex is a dirty, nasty, wicked thing that should only be shared with the person you love above all others.

Misogyny and homophobia come from the same place--the need to defend male superiority. I don't sexists like him are mistaken to think that feminism and gay rights are tied together--of course they are. Feminists and gay rights activists do challenge people like Coburn's right to lock women up and make them subservient to men. The funny thing is that guys like him seem to believe that if women aren't forced to marry men, they will universally reject it. Makes you feel sorry for them if they think that heterosexual relationships are unhappy by definition but "necessary".

I definitely agree with you, though it's still amusing that they think that women who reject marriage automatically become lesbians. Actually, Susie Bright makes a similiar point--she thinks alot of these men are hate women because they are angry that women don't choose them. Looking at the men who gather at pro-life rallies, you can see her point.

To be fair, I think one reason some straight men fear all women are secretly lesbians is because they can't conceive of wanting to have sex with men, so they don't see why anyone else would. ;)
