Apparently, there is a way for a guy to address the inanity of the four-letter "s" word without coming off as a total ass. And that way is to be extremely silly and irreverent. Ross Lincoln shows how it's done. Of course, he linked to me, so I may just be kissing ass.
Nah, I really do appreciate his tone. Irreverence is just the cure for Morford's weak attempts at flattering women while freaking out about their sexuality by invoking this pseudo-reverence for our supposed sexual powers. Women's sexual powers to attract that is; Morford couldn't quite wrap his mind around women as sexual agents. Anyway, our magical attractive abilities are quite overblown; I can't attract my boyfriend away from a motorcycle race, much "control and contain and embody the most potent of energies this world has to offer: its sex, its reproduction, its libido."
Morford's essay belongs in what I call the "Bewitched" tradition--the rule that discourse about female power and agency can only be discussed in terms of containment.

That is to say, women do indeed have a higher degree of responsibility with their sex because it is their most potent and divine strength, a dazzling and eternally alluring hunk of mystical magic, just as men have more responsibility not to abuse their physical strength and their awesome ability to barbecue meats or parallel park.

He brings men's supposed superior strengths in as a counter-balance, but it's a false one. Men shouldn't abuse strength because of the potential to hurt. I don't really see how superior grilling or parking skills can be abused.* And if men are stronger, that's also useful, because it improves their jar-opening functions.

*I am not actually saying men are better at parking or grilling. That's just retarded. But if they were, I don't see the relevance here.
