Twerps banning TWIRP

As it is my duty to comment on all things fucked up in Texas, I have to address this situation in a small town outside of Houston where they banned "TWIRP" day, which is a gender role reversal day, like Sadie Hawkins. I know they have TWIRP days in Beaumont, though I was under the impression that most schools just have a formal dance like the prom and the only role reversal is that they girls pick up and pay for the boys. But there's no cross-dressing. So this school is doing it a little differently, from what I understand.

We did have something similiar in Alpine. We called it Powder Puff football. All the girls would dress up in football gear and have a game of the juniors versus the seniors. And the boys would dress as cheerleaders and do cheers. Even the parents would cross dress. All in all, it was weird but surprisingly fun. Mostly because we were bored.

Well, like I said here on Feministing in the comments, some parents complained about Powder Puff and it got canceled. The excuse was that they felt teenage girls were just too delicate for football, even though they played lame ass flag football instead of tackle football. Obviously, a teenage girl can be tackled by girls her own size just the same as a teenage boy can, but they needed a way to pretty up the fact that they were protesting because it made them uncomfortable to see young ladies enjoying football too much. Even a mock game came way too close to drawing some of the adoration to the girls that varsity football players get. The spotlight is not for girls, just boys.

What I find interesting is that both TWIRP and Powder Puff exist to reinforce, not undermine, stereotypical gender roles. Apparently, my school had a TWIRP, though we called it Sadie Hawkins, many years before I started there, but it became pointless once girls started initiating dates. Apparently, West Texas really is ahead of the curve set by East Texas, though both are feminist nightmares. There will always be a simpleton, I guess, who just doesn't get such obvious jokes as a boy wearing a dress.
