Apparently, the number on the amount of money that Halliburton has run off with illegally is up to $1.8 billion.

The news could mean that the government may withhold further payments to the company. The Halliburton (nyse: HAL - news - people ) fees in question represent more than 40% of the $4.18 billion that the Halliburton subsidiary Kellogg Brown & Root has billed the Pentagon for its work in the region. KBR has already has filed for bankruptcy, and Halliburton has warned its shareholders that any efforts by the Pentagon to withhold payments could hurt its liquidity.
